Brief Introduction to the Guqin Music source: Han Jie Cao | 首頁 |
Best Wishes for the Year of the Sheep | 羊年行大運 |
or Goat | Image from a painting by Zhao Mengfu |
The original copy of the painting is in the Freer Gallery (further). The music is from the last section of the qin melody Han Jie Cao, which concerns "Su Wu the Shepherd". In the 2nd century BCE Su Wu was sent to Central Asia as an ambassador from the Chinese imperial court. He was held there in captivity, occupying himself as a shepherd instead of accepting offers to work for the nomads. The final section of the melody, "While still alive, entering the Jade Gate (imperial palace)", relates Su Wu's triumphant return to the Han capital.
