Li Sao (Falling into Grief) #1:
By 白云立 Bai Yunli |
離騷圖 #1
Preface (Qu Yuan's birth) |
(00.00 - 00.41 of the Li Sao recording)
Li Sao opens by saying that Qu Yuan was born of royalty when a group of stars that in ancient China were called She Ti pointed in a certain direction. The stars of She Ti were apparently an extension of the handle of what in the West is called the Big Dipper. Bai Yunli's illustration closely follows the 18th century illustration by Men Yingzhao, perhaps reflecting the influence Western astronomy by then had in China.
