B. Qin Melodies1
During the period of the northern and southern dynasties qin melodies had a close relationship with qingshang music.2 This situation is similar to the relationship during the Han dynasty between qin melodies and matching songs.3 In antiquity there are the clearly-written tablatures for Secluded Orchid in Stone-Tablet Mode and Raven's Evening Call which have survived to the present. These song titles, for our understanding of the musical circumstances of those times, have provided the first actual materials.
