    --  65 melodies (three with lyrics). Regarding their sources:

• 51 of the 65 were earlier in Yuwu Qinpu (1589), with only one of its 52 not included here:
  • Of those 51 from 1589, 48 were copied identically here in 1604
  • Of the other 3 melodies, one (#1) is very different from 1589, one (#43) is somewhat different, and one (#45) seems completely different.
• 14 of the 65 were not in 1589:
  • four appear for the first time here (#s 2, 3, 28 [?] and 42), all attributed to Shen Taishao)
  • ten (#s 4, 15, 16, 22, 32, 33, 34, 35, 43, 57) can be found in earlier handbooks but not 1589.

Folio One: Gong Mode
1. Shenpin Gongyi (1; VI/300)
   Different from the one in Yuwu Qinpu (see #5 below). Perhaps specifically designed to go with #2 and #3.

   After its tablature there is commentary (中文) signed by Hao Ning which introduces #2 and #3 but also mentions #28. It first briefly introduces 沈太韶 Shen Taishao, then describes the circumstances of creating these three pieces.

2. He Qi Yin (3; VI/301)
   Not in Yuwu Qinpu: only here. It is attributed to Shen Taishao in the preceding comments.

3. Dongtian Chun Xiao (Spring Dawn in a Grotto Heaven; 18 sections; VI/302)
   It is attributed to Shen Taishao in the comments after #1 above; not in Yuwu Qinpu; first of 28
   Kuian Qinpu (1660) has an illustration. (N.B.: five pieces here have 18 sections.)

4. You Lan (13; VI/308)
   Not in Yuwu Qinpu

5. Shenpin Gongyi (1; VI/312)
   Not in the Table of Contents! Identical to the version in Yuwu Qinpu
