Melody: Wild Geese in Autumn   /   Introduction to the paintings   /   Preludes 首頁
Qiu Hong (Wild Geese in Autumn) #15
Anonymous paintings and tablature in the Palace Museum, Beijing
秋鴻圖 #15
明佚名故宮圖、譜
previous illustration / next illustration Settling on a Distant Sandbank (遠落平沙 Yuan Luo Pingsha) 上一圖 / 下一圖

08.51 - 09.46 on Shen Qi Mi Pu CD 6 #8

Title in Shen Qi Mi Pu (1425) is the same:
Settling on a Distant Sandbank
(遠落平沙 Yuan Luo Pingsha)

All versions use this title, with none having 雁落平沙 Yan Luo Pingsha, the title of a famous later and musically unrelated melody, Wild Geese Descend on a Sandbank (aka Pingsha Luo Yan)

1425 Section 15 has the same tablature including all the added commentary, including instructions on how to do a particular 對起 duiqi and comments at the end on the need for personal instruction (translation).

1546 largely has this tablature as its Section 14, but still with the title Yuan Luo Pingsha. The main difference is that it begins the tablature for its Section 14 with a phrase from Section 13, then having skipped entirely the harmonics the other versions have as their Section 14, goes to the tablature that the other handbooks have as Section 15.

As for the specifics of the tablature 1546 has for its Section 14, it begins with what the present tablature has as the middle of line 8 through the end of line 9 of Section 13 (q.v.). It then skips straight to what the others have as Section 15, as at right, which begins with the same repeated phrase that ended line 9 of Section 13. The main difference in the tablature for the rest of the section is that it omits the added instructions and comments that are here and in 1425.
