Zhu Wenji
- Qin Shi #142 |
朱文濟 1
琴史 #142 2 |
The biography of Zhu Wenji is told together with that of his opponent, a fellow "daizhao" (a Hanlin academy rank, in this case apparently specializing in qin3) named Zhao Yi.4 The story of Zhu Wenji showing the Song Taizong emperor (reigned 976-992) that the seven string qin could do everything the nine-string qin could do is also related in Chapter 6a1 of Xu Jian's history.
Read here, however, for a comment suggesting that the nine-string qin failed because it was used only to play melodies within the traditional style, not to develop new music.
Zhu Wenji was the qin teacher of Yi Zhong. Yi Zhong, as the teacher of Zhi Bai and Yi Hai, could be considered the founder of the Northern Song's "qin monk faction".5
Qinshu Cunmu, Folio 3, #3, lists a handbook, Qin Zadiaopu, attributed to Zhu Wenji in the Song Chronicles, but it has no further information.
Zhu Wenji is also mentioned in QSDQ. See,
The original Qin Shi essay begins as follows.
